We can probably predict that Gruen, Texas, will be the smallest town that we will have the privilege of sharing with everyone. It has only about 20 residents, which is likely because it was once a ghost town that was revived sometime before the 1970s. It's on the National Register of Historic Places.
Gruen is located approximately 40 minutes from San Antonio, and is close to New Braunfels, Texas, a city with a significantly larger population of over 100,000.
Jefferson, Texas, has a population of about 2,000. Jefferson, is situated in Northeast Texas, approximately 20 miles from the Louisiana border. It is home to more state-registered historic structures than anywhere else in Texas, many of which are also listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Port Aransas is situated on the Texas Gulf Coast. Its population is only about 3,000 and is known as the "Fishing Capital of Texas".
Along with great fishing, it offers an observation tower for bay watchers and provides opportunities for dolphin sightings. It's also a haven for marine science education.
Alpine is another Chihuahuan desert, town with a population of about 6000. It's only about 25 miles West of our other Chihuahuan desert town, Marfa, Texas. Alpine is centrally located to make it easy to visit the Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Davis Mountains State Park with its Indian Lodge, and the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center.
Salado, is located along the "Old Chisholm Trail", in central Texas.
Researching upcoming events in this small town proved this town to be one of the most active towns I have explored thus far.
The best I can do is share this website with you and I am going to make Salado part of my travel plans.
